I have Star Citizen, not ED. But to be honest I probably wont play SC again until 3.0 is released.

Imo the developement of SC is annoyingly slow atm. I'm also waiting for more to play than just flying around aimlessly and walking around space stations just to look around. Of course all this would be more exciting with Rift.

I have not yet looked into if SC has rift support. Or vr support at all.

Apparently it's not officially supported yet.

SOON, maybe. Btw, this game has raised 155 million dollars, insane.

Paul, I'm at work now but when I get home later tonight I will post my settings for RF2 and Rift.
And yea, it's hard to find time to play ED, it seems it is a game that you need to set aside 3 or 4 hours if you want to play it and accomplish something.

Star Citizen... I have not purchased any thing yet, I do get the news letter.  I don't know, something is just not right about it.  155 million.
I wonder what kind of cars the top guys there drive?

I was going to do some screen grabs but I realized I can't use Photo Bucket any more in less I pay them $400 a year.  Need to look for another free photo hosting site.
But, in the mean time I basically followed this guys recommendations.
https://forum.studio-397.com/index.php?threads/rfactor2-the-vr-thread-settings-tips.55249/
In Steam VR > Settings > Developer I have the super sampling slider set at 1.5.  I may need to play with that a little bit, still testing.
My computer specs are
ASRock Z97 Extreme6 LGA 1150 Intel Z97
Intel Core i5-4690K Devil's Canyon Quad-Core 3.5 GHz
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB)DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2400
EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4GB SSC GAMING w/ACX 2.0+

I may upgrade to a GTX 1080 soon too I think.

I would love to run VR, but motion sickness would kill me... I get it bad.

I picked up the Oculus Rift last night and got it setup in a basically workable way. I have the 2 sensors but can do some standing room scale stuff. I am still working on getting the sensors hard mounted in a way that will offer good room scale and the ability to sit in my rig for racing.

I quickly found out that I can not have both my triple screen (eyefinity) setup and the oculus rift connected at the same time. My video card has 2x DVI, 1x HDMI, and 1x Displayport. I had both DVI's and the DP connections used. However, due to how the Video card sees the connections the DP and HDMI can not be used at the same time.

I will likely just re-order my screens to have the two DVI ports drive the two right hand screens. The left screen of the triple screen setup will be given to my son. rF2 (and other sims) are the only programs that really need to use all 3 screens. All other games will simply use a single screen in borderless window mode.

On to my first impressions of the Rift.

OMFG!!!!!

The setup as not as painless as I was lead to believe. but it was close to plug and play. I have 2 3.0 USB ports and 6 2.0 ports. However, one of the 3.0 ports seems to not be functioning. I was able to get the sensors plugged in and working on the 2.0 USB ports without issue.

I have done almost no tweaking of the image quality and it is already heads and shoulders ahead of what I was getting with my Gear VR using RiftCat (Vridge). There is no perceivable lag and I can read text clearly. This was not the case with my Gear VR.

The hand tracking is impressive. I am having some minor trouble remembering which button (Trigger or middle finger) does what in games like Robo Recall. But the hand presence is HUGE in conveying that sense of presence.

I am having some issues getting the head position correct in rF2. I was able to get some laps in but I had to hunch over quite a bit to get a good view of the track. More than 3-4 laps like that will be too hard to keep doing.

Outside of the head height issue I was really impressed with the resolution of the track and my ability to see the apexes. The sense of speed is right on and I found myself breaking more appropriately than I think I had been before. I certainly did not seem to be overshooting the corners in the same way as I was prone to before the headset.

I could look around the car in a natural way and it was not jarring the way the quick look left and right buttons do on a 2d screen. I hope this lends itself to closer and more competitive racing.

UI elements seemed to be easier to see in the foreground. I did not feel like I needed to readjust my eyes to see the elements like I did with my Gear VR.

FPS did not appear to be an issue as I found the FPS to be very stable with the PP being set to None. With more time I'll hopefully be able to get the graphical settings dialed in and maximize the headsets abilities.

In short I don't expect to do much more racing without the Rift Headset if I don't have to.

I hope more games move to VR. I am really looking forward to Alien Isolation in VR, as well as Fallout 4. I also hope more league members get onto the VR bandwagon. It is totally worth the cost of entry.

I would love to run VR, but motion sickness would kill me... I get it bad.

I have only fallen ill to motion sickness once in all my2 years of VR testing. That was caused by poor frames on a Cardboard app. My stomach is pretty good so I am not terribly concerned about Motion sickness, however, the developers are much more aware of the problem and are making big strides toward eliminating it altogether. Make sure you find a way to try it before you decide not to buy.

In ref. to your head position in RF2.  Hope this is not redundant but did you install Steam VR if so, did you run the room setup?  (Not the same as Oculus room setup)
You need to mess with the step in room setup where you measure your distance from eye level to floor whilst holding the head set at eye level.  I found I needed to make that distance a little less than what actual was when I was sitting down.

Also, sometimes when you check devices in Oculus dialog it will mis-report a USB 3.0 as a 2.0.  Close the app and open it again and it will see it as USB 3.0.  YMMV.

I am still tweaking graphics settings but I have resolved to myself that I will probably order a new graphics card soon.  I think the GTX 970 is really right at minimum and I will get much better performance with a GTX 1080.

I wish you still subscribed to Iracing just so you could see the difference in visual quality between Iracing and RF2 DX11.
Iracing is a night and day difference, much clearer, less flashing or shimmering, brighter and easier to see farther down the road.
I hope that RF2 gets that good when they release the final version of DX11.

I bet your your kids are having a blast playing with the Rift, you will probably be fighting over it LOL

Yeah my 13 year old son is having a ball with it. He has practically taken it off my head to play while I was trying to get rF2 setup. My wife and 16 year old daughter don't seem to have any overriding desires to try it.

Chad, I'm pleased that you're happy with the Rift! I wasn't sure what a "triple screener" would think of it. I'm with you, that any racing I do will be with the Rift. So much better for situational awareness and natural breaking and apexing.
Not sure if your head height problem can be cured by just adjusting the seat position in the car? I think I wrote before that with the Rift, I definitely use the seat adjustment and mirror adjustments... just like you would when you sit in a real car.
If you haven't done this yet, try reversing in the car. Guaranteed to get you motion sick!

Not sure about you guys, but one "feature" of the Rift for me is that it is not COMPLETELY enclosing. I can actually look down the bridge of my nose and see a small crack to "outside" to the real world. Comes in handy to take a peak at the keyboard or screen without taking off the visor!

For games that support Rift, I found that Dirt Rally supports it right out of the box, even though it doesn't show up in the VR section of my Steam Library.

Hey, did you guys know the Rift has a microphone? I just read that on the internet tonight. I haven't used it at all. But I think I'll try to set it up as voice input for CrewChief. Then I'll get rid of the status overlay so the cockpit view is "pure".

Funny you're timing. I am actually using the microphone to talk on TS right now.
