Upon completion of registration on the forums drivers can announce their intent to participate in the series in this post. Your name will be added to the registrants list. There is no minimum amount of races you need to participate in if you sign up, but we would like to know if you can only do few races.

rFactor 2 General / Senna and Aston GTE released
« on: August 16, 2019, 11:26:48 pm »
The Aston Martin GTE and Mclaren Senna Hypercar/GTR have been released as a pack on Steam.

https://store.steampowered.com/itemstore/365960/detail/1011/

Each car can be purchased separately, but the pack makes a lot more sense as rF2 and WEC will be replacing the LMP2 with the Hypercar class in the near future. plus the AM GTE is an addition to the GTE class in multiclass racing. (which we may move toward in an other series or two)

I have up a server with the GTE, Hypercar, and LMP2 classes on it at both LeMans and Sebring. Just move to the next track if you find yourself on a track youe would rather not be on and you are the only driver on the server. If there are more people you will have to put it to a vote.

My early impressions on the Aston is that the LeMans gearing is way to long and I could not get past 180 or so on the straights. I am sure I simply have not got the setup right, although I could not keep the car on the track with 1 wing.

The Mclaren senna is a hoot to drive. Planted as the day is long and the gears are unlocked so you can decide how you want to attack the track. No aero packages available though so it is up to the drivers to setup their car for either LeMans or Sebring.

Let us know your opinions on the cars and maybe share some setups if you feel so inclined.

rFactor 2 General / Stark differences
« on: July 12, 2019, 05:13:15 am »
As I was putting the new BRNO review video up on the front page of the site I noticed the stark difference in visual appearance of the two videos. I took each one and opened them in separate windows and then placed each one on a separate screen in full window mode. Both videos were running in 720P 60FPS. While the promo video is using the APEX mod the review video is using the GT3 Mod.

When looking at the two videos side by side it became readily apparent the improvements S397 have made in the graphics department. The promo video was uploaded in November of 2016, the review video just this week. in 2.5 years S397 have made great strides in the graphical quality of the game.

I dont know that you really get a sense of the changes when they occur incrementally, but seeing the two videos definitely reinforced my belief that S397 are doing a good job with rF2. Lets hope the UI and Competition Infrastructure bring about the same kind of positive change.

In a recent Studio 397 forum post a poster asked if S397 would be a bit more clear about their timeline. Marcel responded that the UI and Competition Infrastructure (CI) is currently in internal testing and that as soon as the testers can no longer find bugs or showstopping errors they would release the UI and CI update as a public beta. He also went on to say that we should expect this public beta in "weeks rather than months".

To me this is great news as it signals that we may be seeing the new rF2 alot sooner than I had thought. (2020) Lets keep our fingers crossed.

rFactor 2 General / March Roadmap released
« on: April 01, 2019, 01:19:05 pm »
As the ile says. The March Roadmap has been released. There is some great info about the new UI and competition infrastructure in the roadmap. It does not sound like it will be released anytime real soon, but it gives a good insight into where they are at and what they are expecting to be done yet coming up. Give it a read.

rFactor 2 General / Thoughts on the Reiza Pack?
« on: April 01, 2019, 03:00:11 am »
I went to pick up the Reiza Pack tonight and accidentally bought the track pack instead of the entire pack. I am currently trying to refund the purchase so I can get the pack with the tracks and cars. I am not terribly enthused by the cars, but I am curious about the tracks. 2 of them are already available in the sim via converted rips from other games. Imola and VIR. How do the new tracks compare to the old ones and are they as good as some of the other officially released content of recent memory? I wanted to try them out tonight but got caught at work really late and ran out of time to test them. Let me know your thoughts on the new tracks. (and new cars if you have formed an opinion)

General Discussion / Importance of using Voice Comms and Pre-Planning
« on: February 24, 2019, 09:07:31 pm »
VRC Members,

This week we were at Zandvoort. During the practice session I became aware that several of our drivers were starting their sessions from the pits instead of loading into a garage. This meant that they needed to find their way from the paddock area to the race track. As it turns out this meant that they had to make a left from their starting position and then another left to enter the racing area. If the driver did not do this properly, because the race marshal was indicating them to go right, they were disqualified. I do not know why the drivers were starting from this area as the track has a significantly larger number of garage stalls than were necessary for our grid size.

One member advised us very late in the practice session and I was able to un-DQ the driver before the end of the session, however it did not fix the overriding problem with their starting position in the paddock. Come the Qualification time the two members who were starting from the paddock were continuing to have issues getting to the racing surface. I un-DQ'd one driver again, and he was able to put up a time for the qaul. But the second was not so lucky and was unable to start the race with the rest of the field.

This incident raised some questions and concerns which I feel are important to address.

1. Voice Comms - The official program VRC is using for voice communication is Discord. All Admins are on the Discord voice channel and available if technical issues arise. If you and your teammates are using any other channel or program (teamspeak) we will not hear you or be able to respond unless the communications are in the chat window. Nobody like using the chat window when talking is simply easier. If everyone is on the voice comms they can be on top of any technical issue during the race weekend that may effect their session.

2. Preparation - It is the responsibility of each driver to make sure they are prepared for the race weekend. This includes having practiced on the server to be sure they can connect and run without difficulties. If a driver can not connect to the server we want to be sure this is identified and addressed prior to Sunday's official practice period. This ensures that the membership enjoy a relatively problem free race experience. That all being said, we understand that this is rF2 and it comes with some weird, quirky, oddball behaviors that are not always predictable or foreseeable. If you are having problems make sure to get on early and then get on comms so you can let the admin team know. That way we can try to resolve the problem as soon as possible. Bringing problems up late in the practice session makes it almost impossible for us to fix the issue before the qualification period starts.

3. Communication during Qual and Race - This has been a long standing rule in the league. There is NO communication during the Qualification period and none in the Race. This is the reason that the first two points above are so important. Technical issues and problems need to be resolved before the Qual and certainly before the race start because we want to make sure that all drivers can get a distraction free qualification and race experience. Having someone chatting in the text box or talking over the voice comms can be a distraction that is hard to ignore. The only time there should be any communication at these times is from an admin.

4. Race Restarts - Simply put, there should never be a race (or qualifying) restart unless it is due to a problem with the server. Individual technical issues are to be addressed before the race weekend starts as listed above. Massive crashes and pileups are the responsibility of the drivers to avoid. I understand that this seems like a harsh rule to have, but it really comes down to individual drivers making sure they are ready for the race weekend. Having restarts as part of any official race only promotes poor race etiquette and unsafe driving. Drivers who expect that there may be a restart are more likely to engage in questionable driving because they can call for a restart if there is a massive pileup. I am absolutely not interested in having that option.

As always, If you have any questions or comments please contact an admin via PM in the forums.

rFactor 2 General / Botniaring with Chicane?
« on: November 11, 2018, 11:47:29 pm »
I have been testing Botniaring with the chicane on my server. Simon has also put up a server with the Chicane-less Botniaring. I am curious as to how the membership feels about which version we should use in the upcoming series. I have not yet tried the version without the chicane so I currently dont have an opinion.

rFactor 2 General / FIAGT1 V2.0 Mod testing
« on: October 08, 2018, 09:56:38 pm »
I have put up a server with the FIAGT1 v2.0 Mod on Virginia International Raceway. GetMod is still not working so you will have to DL the cars and track before joining the server. If you do not do this you will get an error from the server.

The cars can be DL'd here:

http://www.internationalsimracing.com/forum/index.php?topic=4521.0

The track can be subscribed to at the Steam Workshop here:

http://www.internationalsimracing.com/forum/index.php?topic=4521.0

Let us know what you think of the mod and maybe it can be considered for a future series.
