Mk 2 version out cheeper to $399  ;D

I like that, "We're Back!" and  "Currently Out Of Stock"  :(
I have a three axis CNC Tormach mill in my garage/ shop that I use to make motorcycle components with on the side.  I have been thinking of designing my own pedals set and researching load-cells and how to implement a USB interface and drivers etc. and make my own set of pedals.  I retire in a year and maybe that will be my first project?

I finally got Pete into sim racing after trying for years! I served in the Army with Pete's dad, I've known Pete since he was 8 years old. He's in his 30's now :P  As he stated, he has tons of experience racing on dirt IRL. So he's no stranger to racing, he just has to relearn how to "feel" the car for sim racing.

Thank you for your service Rick!

In ref. to your head position in RF2.  Hope this is not redundant but did you install Steam VR if so, did you run the room setup?  (Not the same as Oculus room setup)
You need to mess with the step in room setup where you measure your distance from eye level to floor whilst holding the head set at eye level.  I found I needed to make that distance a little less than what actual was when I was sitting down.

Also, sometimes when you check devices in Oculus dialog it will mis-report a USB 3.0 as a 2.0.  Close the app and open it again and it will see it as USB 3.0.  YMMV.

I am still tweaking graphics settings but I have resolved to myself that I will probably order a new graphics card soon.  I think the GTX 970 is really right at minimum and I will get much better performance with a GTX 1080.

I wish you still subscribed to Iracing just so you could see the difference in visual quality between Iracing and RF2 DX11.
Iracing is a night and day difference, much clearer, less flashing or shimmering, brighter and easier to see farther down the road.
I hope that RF2 gets that good when they release the final version of DX11.

I bet your your kids are having a blast playing with the Rift, you will probably be fighting over it LOL

I was going to do some screen grabs but I realized I can't use Photo Bucket any more in less I pay them $400 a year.  Need to look for another free photo hosting site.
But, in the mean time I basically followed this guys recommendations.
In Steam VR > Settings > Developer I have the super sampling slider set at 1.5.  I may need to play with that a little bit, still testing.
My computer specs are
ASRock Z97 Extreme6 LGA 1150 Intel Z97
Intel Core i5-4690K Devil's Canyon Quad-Core 3.5 GHz
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB)DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2400
EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4GB SSC GAMING w/ACX 2.0+

I may upgrade to a GTX 1080 soon too I think.

Paul, I'm at work now but when I get home later tonight I will post my settings for RF2 and Rift.
And yea, it's hard to find time to play ED, it seems it is a game that you need to set aside 3 or 4 hours if you want to play it and accomplish something.

Star Citizen... I have not purchased any thing yet, I do get the news letter.  I don't know, something is just not right about it.  155 million.
I wonder what kind of cars the top guys there drive?

I'm for green thinking, environment and all that but I'm glad I will be dead when the internal combustion engine is as rare as the Stanley Steamer.

I do have eye strain and a bit of a headache, but not as bad as when I first started using it.  I'm hoping it will go away entirely.
I wear glasses too, doesn't seem to interfere with the visor or the ability to use it.  Just kind of a bother to take the visor on and off but once it is on and positioned it is not a problem.

Yea, flying around the station in ED is cool, much easier to find the entry to a station with the rift.
I don't do any combat if I can help it in ED but I have heard that the rift helps you in that activity.

Hi Chad,
Sorry for the long post
I haven't noticed any lag.
Straight out of the box I was not impressed in the performance in RF2.  But I have done some tweaking and it doesn't look too bad now.  I had some low frame rates and some stuttering on the server during Sundays F3 practice session.  That was the first time I had to run the rift in multiplayer with ten players.  I think I can do a bit more tweaking and get it to perform even better.  I am just used to having my graphics settings on ultra or high with single monitor.  I just need to scale some settings back a little bit more.  It seems like everything in RF2 you got to work and dig around insidefor getting it just right.
Over all the quality of the graphics is lower than I expected but I was able to improve it a bit and the immersion and the ability to see apexís and braking points as well as other drivers around you more than makes up for the little bit lower quality graphics.
I also play Iracing and mostly race with the Lotus49 group.  Iracing was a lot simpler to get running well.  I just made a few recommended changes in the graphics settings and started racing.  I get 90 to 120 FPS in Iracing with 10 to 15 other racers in a race and that is not too far from what I was getting before the RiftÖ like 120 to 160 FPS.
The other racing sims I have such as AC and Pcars worked well with the rift although I had to turn graphics settings down quite a bit in AC.  But I donít really spend any time with these two sims, havenít played them in months.  Just wanted to try the rift in them to see what it was like.
I also play Elite Dangerous.  I used head Track IR5 in that game before.  Now with the rift it is pretty cool.  Works much better the Track IR5 did.
I have only just started looking at the other games you can see in the Oculus library.  There are some free ones to download so I tried one called ISS.  You are aboard the International Space Station and obviously floating.  You can grab stuff and work the crane to grab a supply module outside and walk in space I guess (havenít got that far yet).  I read the revues on the download page and almost all of them said if you get motion sick easily you should not play this game.  They are close, not too bad in the station but just looking out the window is pretty weird and the revues said that walking in space is even worse, weíll see LOL.
I would summarize by saying that for $400 it is worth it.  I would not have bothered if it was still in the $600 to $800 range; however, I have a GTX 970Ö the rift now has me thinking I will by a new GTX 1080 to hopefully get even better performance.  You know how it is, you get one thing for your racing rig and it usually leads to another and another and so on.  Iím not as much an equipment **** as *Simon is but when does the madness stop?  LOL
(*Just ribbing you Simon)

Nice piece of kit Simon!
I have looked at the do it yourself plans out there for direct drive wheels.  I have built and retro fitted CNC mills and lathes and basically the motor is a stepper or servo with a driver, although OSW motor would have much more torque at low RPM than a motor you would use for machining applications.
Cracks me up how there is a great big E-stop button in the kit... it's like the thing could break your thumbs if it ran wild  ;D

Thanks for the input Ibby.
I'm coming from single monitor too.
I agree with every thing you say, track awareness, etc.  It's pretty cool
