A question of tires
« on: June 23, 2017, 02:39:12 pm »
Ok gents,

So I thought it might be useful to get your guys tips on tire preservation and keeping them in the right temperature window.

I am actually generally pretty good with my tire management, but still would like to see what others focus on.  Here are a few things I prioritize:
  • Balancing tire cambers and pressures
  • Smooth driving with minimal steering inputs
  • Getting the brake balance right to avoid locking and overheating the front brakes
  • If I do notice my tire temps peak during the lap, I try to back off for a few corners
I also tend to use the S7 tires for our races, but this is track dependent.

The aero balance is one thing i am still not sure about, just how much more down force saves or hurts the tires.

I"m still coming to terms with the EGT mod,but with my experience with the Apex mod is you want as much front end grip as possible in RF2 to minimize sliding, that means lowest tire pressures you can get away with.Don"t think I ever ran more than 20 psi in the front. Also no ARB front but some ARB rear was common and having ABS on helps alot with not locking up the fronts.Your right about minimal steering inputs help for sure.I ran S7"S before and after pitsop at Sebring and had basically no tire wear at all and could have ran much longer before I pitted.I had been running S8"S except at RA where I messed up and started with S6"S.I don"t think your ever going to get the tire wear even in RF2,besides you only have to make the tires last 23 minutes so I just concentrate on max front end grip with low DF,I know easier said than done sometimes. This EGT mod takes sometime to figure out compared to the Apex mod.I do think the EGT mod is superior though and hope to join next seasons series and stop the Mikee freight train thats been terrorizing this league haha. :D
