Server maintenance and Updates
« on: May 14, 2017, 09:01:22 pm »
As I am working on getting the rF2 and Teamspaek servers moved over to the new box you will notice that sometimes the rF2 and TS servers will be down. Fear not this is probably nothing more than me trying to get the services running on the new machine. Just and FYI.

While I work on switching over to the new Box Simon has graciously put up a server for you gentlemen to practice and compare times on.

Currently I have moved the TS server over to the new box. I have also moved all rF2 related software and configs over to the new box. I have setup all the necessary Firewall and router changes. The server should be visible on the steam matchmaker in the launcher, but is not. It should be visible to liveracers but is not. It is visible in the list of rF2 servers, but not though steam.

https://world.rfactor.net/server-list

Search by Server name and type in VRC. You will find our official server. I am having issues getting the two Steam ports to open to the internet. This I believe is the cause for the server not appearing to the steam matchmaker. I will continue to work on this when I get home. It is maddening. I recall having issues like this the first time I setup the server. I remember it suddenly just started working. I dont know why but I went with it and had no further issues from then on.

Oh well. We will keep on keeping on I suppose.

Man, sorry it is such a hassle to get this to work.  Wish I knew more about this stuff.  I googled setting up a RF2 server through Steam the other night and couldn't believe what a convoluted Cluster Bang it all is.
I googled "opening steam port forwarding" just now and I suspect you have too... or some variation either the last time or this time and waded through the search results trying to find a specific answer.
Appreciate your effort Chad, don't stress on it though.  And good luck.
Gerry

It really should be as simple as installing the rF2 server and copying over the player folder. It contains all the port forwarding information in the Multiplayer.json. Then simply forward the ports to the new servers IP.  I mean seriously that is how simple it should be... I'll get it soon enough. Just have to keep plugging away at it.

So for the time being I am putting up the server on the old box until I can get a server running properly on the new box. Teamspeak is on new box.

I used steam CMD Ui app version did not copy player folder from old pc though

when i ran it got windows asking if i wanted to let it have net access.

once i got 1 server running i used Server manager to create the 2 and and 3rd server

maybe something in player file wrong that copied over.

did you change the ip on router for new one or use same ip as old PC ?

http://vrc.createaforum.com/rfactor-2/installing-2-copies-of-rfactor-2/

same app :)

you dont need pw and login for server only just use details this
steamcmd +login anonymous +force_install_dir ../rFactor2-Dedicated +app_update 400300 +quit

so use the 400300(server only) for custom game app id not the 365960(Full rf2) it says in guide

i named one rf2 server and one rf2full  so i can install full or just server

Thanks for the replies guys. I followed the first link you gave me Gerry to get the server installed initially. The second link is for hosting a server without a dedicated server installation.

I believe this is nothing more than a port issue. The two ports used by steam  64298 UDP and 64299 UDP simply will not open again for the new IP. I will probably have to restart with completely new ports and see if that helps.

remove ones with old IP there still in port forwarding

did you forward  the  other ports too ?

UDP+TCP   54297
TCP       64297
UDP       64298
UDP       64299

Well after looking around some more I finally found a post that was useful. I looked into the CustomPluginVariables.json and realized that not all my plugins were listed I manually added the following to the json file.

,
  "SteamPlugin.dll":{
    " Enabled":1
  }

Upon adding that It all appeared to begin working properly. Dear lord. Why wasn't the steam plugin listed? In any case I believe we are back in business now.

I will likely take the server down tomorrow or Saturday to plug in a different CPU I located on Amazon thereby upgrading the CPU from a Xeon 2.53GHz Dual core w/out hyperthreading  to a Xeon 3.06 GHz quad core with hyperthreading (8 threads!) I hope it works well. I also was able to add 4 more GB of RAM to make a total of 8GB of RAM.

This was only possible through the generous donations of our dedicated members. Give yourselves a round of applause. You all made this happen. Great job all. See you on track.
