track conditions and setups changes
« on: November 20, 2018, 08:03:16 pm »
hello Fellows!

Since I started in rfactor 2, and got some stability, coudn't find answers to this issue: track conditions and rubber interfere in setups, is it right? Assuming that, depending on condition for exemple, I can't get traction in exit corners (this is my worst problem!). I've tried same setups and driving styles in different servers and track situations, different time scales, and there is a big impact on my laptimes, tyre wear and performance, being hard to improve stability. The point is: What are the main changes in setups to do in order to reach the best performance for determined track situation, especially to gain traction (fast exit) in exit corners and improve overall?

thanks!

I'm sure there are drivers that approach this more analytically as you do. I wanted to answer something so I'm here to tell that I haven't ever really noticed track conditions to play a part in my setup tweaks. I'm sure I should adjust brake bias on the fly for example as track conditions change, but all I ever do, tbh, is to aim for a good balance and not modify anything on the fly. I usually know what I want my car to do so I'm looking for that sweet spot and after I get near it's all about improving my driving and consistency to improve my laptime.

I could try to help you but I would be just guessing the answers... I assume you can improve traction with lower ride height and softer suspension at rear and generally having a stable car at exits.

In order to win you need to be willing to roll the dice.

Thanks Tig_green!

How do you do this changes in braking balance? I mean, what motive leads you to change braking balance depending of track surface? Is it high temps? high or low rubber? The only idea i have about brake balance is dependant of my rear or front tyres loosing grip in turn in. Maybe i'm wrong, correct me if needs.

thank you very much for time!

Paulo,
I don't have any answers for you. But I understand what you are asking.
We always seem to have setup guides based on how the car is behaving. (like the one I have attached here)
I have never seen a setup guide based on track conditions.
It would make sense that there could be rules of thumb for track changes like track temperature and amount of rubber. But I haven't seen any yet.
