Did a couple of laps earlier today to check things out.  It was raining and I don't see any problem with changing weather conditions.  It was fine as far as I was concerned.  My FPS were fine and even with the default setup (other than rain tires, of course) the car was quite driveable.
IMO, driving in the rain previously was nigh on to impossible but whatever improvements have been made to rF2 have really helped.  It's actually quite fun.    (Addendum: I hope I can get some setup help for the McLaren.  :))

Another test you can run would be to add 10 ai and see how it runs.

There were only 8 of us but it was an interesting event nonetheless. Rain and changing conditions in rf2 are really good imo and we did not notice any significant performance hit. Only thing that bothered me a bit was, that even though there were clearly a dry racing line, wet tires continued to be a viable option when there were rain spray still coming from back of the cars. I was only a second faster during the final few laps with s7 tires compared to Juan who stayed on wets for the whole race (it stopped raining after the first 15 minutes, dry tires started to be a quicker option when there were around 10 minutes left of the race).

All in all I think we need to consider seriously having a race in changing conditions in our winter series. I'm not sure if there is any way to make the weather random, but if there isn't , then only Simon will know how the weather is set up (though I think we need to know at least the starting weather, the first 5 mins or so).

My fps were quite low compared to other tracks; I don't know my fps of this track in the dry. However I didn't notice any downsides to lower fps in the rain.

I'd say: more like this. It's tricky, especially when it's drying.

Extremely surprised and pleased with how the test race went.  My fps were fine and driving in the rain is 1000 times better than it used to be in rF2.  Used wets the whole race after seeing very little degradation through my first stint which I carried quite a bit past half way.  I'd expect that the track would dry quicker when we have a larger field of cars.  I see no reason not to have a changing weather race now and then.  Looking forward to the season.

Sorry I didn't make the race but here's my two cents.  I've ran in races that used the real weather plugin and I was not impressed.  One race it began to rain early but not hard.  It clouded up when it started to rain but then quickly cleared off and the sun was shining so I decided to stay on slicks because well it seemed like the rain was over and it was clearing up.  Next thing I know the sun suddenly goes away the sky turns grey and it's a torrential downpour.  I finally go in for wets and then guys who went with wets from the beginning didn't seem to have much of a loss of speed compared to the slicks anyway.  Tracks with a bridge over the track over the race surface report the track wet line as 0% so you couldn't go by that.  Also the mod that we used the rain fell on the windshield like droplets of mud making it ridiculously difficult to see and very unrealistic.  Going 100mph and the rain droplets don't hardly move.  IRL I've raced for hours at a time in the driving rain and nothing looked as awful and unpredictable.  There's no storm clouds moving in to clue you in to hey it's going to rain.  To me RF2 doesn't have weather transitions down to where you can make anything more than a lucky guess at tires.  For me I could do without the rain transitions.

Im glad the race went well. the weather plugin could be an option, but I think knowing a race will have rain is a better option for the first few attempts at having weather factors. rF2 has really improved their weather effects from when it was being developed by ISI. Hopefully that will continue.

I agree with Tom & Matt. I thought the race went very well with just enough unpredictability to keep you guessing on when to pit. The rain stopped fairly early but the track stayed damp for longer than I had experienced on "test days". I probably pitted a few laps too early or maybe it would have been wiser to stay on wets for the whole race, but those decisions are part of what kept it interesting.

Only glitch I saw was on the formation lap I had Gerry warping in front of me for a second.

Brent, I've never run using the wet weather plugin but I think rain on the windshield was not a problem with scripted weather setup.

I didn't think i would make the race so i wasn't very well prepared for the pit stop.
I too was surprised how long the wet condition stayed on the track after the rain stopped
I was fumbling around with the pit controls I had mapped to my wheel and that really slowed my pace for the lap or two before my pit.  I managed to get the tires changed over to S7 and as i was leaving the pit box I immediately lost control and spun hard in to the guard rail on the right of the pit out lane LOL  Reminded me of the GM executive the spun the Corvette pace car at the Detroit CART race this past summer
 ::)

Must still be a little too wet for dry tires I guess?

I really need to figure out how to use Voice Attack to get the pit stop adjustments made rather than fumbling for buttons on my wheel and trying to see the pit stop black box way off in my lower right hand view in VR.

I had some warping too which reminds me, I just did a fresh install of Win10 and RF2... what are the recommended network settings in RF2?

The race was fun, the car was manageable in the wet.

Thanks to Simon for the server!
Grats to all who ran!

That was a lot of fun.  I thought the track was going to dry faster but I could still see a substantial water spray before going to the pits and I decided to stay on wet tires. That was the right decision.

This was a good test and I am really happy with the improvements S397 has done to the rain feature of rF2.  My FPS were very stable and did not suffer any stuttering or freezes. I can say that we should seriously consider having a race with changing weather conditions.
